Outside Taipei
I explored only a little, and it deserves more time, but the coastline of Taiwan is beautiful....Formosa. We drove up to the northeastern coast, where the Japanese built mines for gold and iron. The rock formations are eerily beautiful, caused partially by volcanic activity, the endless pounding of the surf, and the iron deposits that turn them pink. The village we visited, Juifen - or Chuifen, is famous because the movie "City of Sadness" (also about the Japanese occupation) was filmed here.
