Sittwe

About an hour's flight north of Yangon, Sittwe is the regional capital of Rakhaing state in the north. It was the launching off pad for us to the ancient city of Mruak-U, which is only accessible by boat...6 hours up the Kaladan River. Sittwe sits between the mighty Kaladan and the Bay of Bengal, and is a vibrant mix of Indian and Burmese, Muslim and Hindu and Buddhist. You can feel how close you are to Bangladesh, and how far away you are to everywhere else.
