The River
So.....to get from Sittwe to Mrauk-U....did I mention it was a 6 hour boat ride? But on a longboat with a motor, basically going at a brisk 5 miles an hour up the Kaladan River. It is the only way for foreigners to access Mrauk-U, the great Rakhaing capital from the 15th - 18th centuries. The journey was fascinating: a trip behind in time with nothing but the water, the water Buffalo, flocks of birds and a few Villagers. Not another sound but the put-put of our boat's motor...not a plane, car, or motorcycle sighted. A trip back to the 4th century, which culminated in pulling up to the private pier of our hotel, which was a nice transition back to the 21st century...at least momentarily.
