Sik Faan

We tried to describe a restaurant that Pilar had visited on her last trip but our Cantonese made our new cab driver confused...big suprise there. Finally after many expressive "fish! fish!" and a few "sik Faan!" (bon appetit) he nodded his head quickly and said with much conviction: "hi, hi!" (yes, yes!) And off we went on a long winding trip through god knows where. We ended up at the Jumbo floating restaurant, which had fish and was certainly very sik faan, but not exactly the place Pilar was thinking of. After lunch, shopping at the markets of Tsim Sha Tsui (very fun to say over and over like you mean it) and Mon Kok (even more fun to say, especially if you are french). Mon Kok is the area where the Ladies Market (located on Ladies Street)is, and it goes on for what seems miles. Then Mon Kok lights up like Vegas and gets even more crowded as everyone comes out for Saturday night fun. The combination of neon and people is so invigorating, you don't realize how tired you are until your eyes start crossing.

Saturday

So finally a full day to explore...and a full day in Hong Kong goes through the night so it is truly like a day and a half! My partner in crime Pilar and I set out to Stanley Beach...and were struck by the comforting taxi protection buddha. He seemed to work because we got there in one piece. Stanley Beach is an area on the other side of the island and is pretty touristy - big market, lots of Australians and British. We saw a very brave cat and a sleepy dog.

Mr. Meat

Food is everywhere in Hong Kong....sometimes in interesting forms!

Beautiful Junk

So one night we all went out on a beautiful old junk that sailed around the harbour to Kowloon and back. It was wooden with huge red sails and had beds on the top deck where you could relax and have a little lie down while watching the neon lit city go by. At 8pm sharp there is a light show across the entire skyline, which is a little bit of Vegas here in Hong Kong.

secret love affair

Every morning Tori is greeted by Mr. Kitty, who snuggles with her until the humans wake up. Then they try to hide their secret love affair. I will miss watching that routine every day. For some reason kitty love doesn't apply to all dogs ...Mr. Kitty swats Linus if he gets too near. He is a particular cat.
