Things Around The Big Buddha

The Big Buddha is on Lantau Island, and to get there, it's either a boat ride for 45 minutes and then a bus going way up for another 30 or so minutes. That or the Cable Car, which is seemingly always broken...which doesn't bode well. I opted for the boat and the bus. It is beautiful and serene, as you would expect, and along with the tourists wandering around, there are stray herds of cows, for some reason. As always at these places, there is a mixture of both the beautiful, and well, the odd.

The Top

So after walking up the buddha lined path, you come to this. And it becomes hard to know where to focus, so you stand and sweat and stare.

Whose your Buddha?

There are so many, and each so different...I liked the ones with the dogs, of course.

The Zoo

It is small, and there are probably more mosquitos than mammals, but 3 different types of macaques! The cats were not part of the zoo...

Beautiful things

Things that kind of freak me out

Okay, for a start, swaztikas, all scaffolding for building is made out of bamboo poles, and these Idon't know what scary giant things ice skating at the mall.

Hot Dogs!

Dragonboat Festival

It's a big one...thousands of people cram all the beaches in Hong Kong and cheer on their favorite teams. This festival fell on the day after a huge rainstorms hit the island, so even the beach was steamy.
